Fare donations and awareness

Freenow by Lyft is partnering with Whizz Kidz to raise funds through its in-app Round Up and Donate feature and highlight black-cab access for young wheelchair users. Passengers can round fares to the nearest pound before, during or after UK trips, with all proceeds going to the charity. A co-branded black cab will also promote the campaign in London.

Survey highlights transport concerns

Whizz Kidz found 96 per cent of young wheelchair users fear declining accessible taxis will make travel harder. Availability problems disrupted plans for 84 per cent, and 53 per cent said black cabs were necessary because alternative transport was unavailable. The survey also recorded black-cab use for social outings, education, work and healthcare, describing the vehicles as important to independence.

Accessibility and charitable support

The survey found 73 per cent said guaranteed fleet accessibility in an app improved booking. Freenow says its black cabs include ramps, floor securement points and spacious interiors. Donations will support mobility equipment, specialist support and advocacy.
