Translation and adaptation

Researchers translated and culturally adapted the Wheelchair Use Confidence Scale for Manual Wheelchair Users and the corresponding scale for power wheelchair users into Persian, also known as Farsi. The study examined whether the translated instruments produced consistent and repeatable assessments of confidence in wheelchair use.

Participants and methods

The Persian manual and power versions were administered to 40 adult wheelchair users. Investigators assessed internal consistency and test-retest reliability, providing early psychometric evidence rather than a full evaluation of every possible clinical application or population.

Reliability findings

Internal consistency was high, with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.97 for the Persian manual-wheelchair scale and 0.98 for the Persian power-wheelchair scale. Test-retest reliability was also high: intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.985 and 0.981, respectively. The authors describe these results as early evidence that the instruments may help healthcare professionals assess wheelchair-use confidence among Persian-speaking users.
