Rosie and David: planning beyond the airport

In SIA’s Thailand account, Rosie and David describe a rewarding trip alongside tight taxis, uneven streets and accommodation adaptations.

A personal holiday account published by Spinal Injuries Association. Present-day access and commercial arrangements have not been independently verified.

Preparation changed the journey

Rosie describes travelling to Phuket with David and personal assistants. After difficulties on a previous journey, she reports that the next flight went to plan following substantial preparation. That contrast is part of their experience, not a guarantee for another trip.

The destination still needed planning

Her account describes limited taxi space for a large powered chair, uneven surfaces and steep gradients. Their villa needed temporary adaptations and still did not provide access to every area. These practical limits sit alongside their enjoyment of the holiday.

Questions for your own itinerary

Our takeaway is to confirm vehicle space, routes and accommodation details before committing to a plan. Identify what assistance or equipment you personally need. Another traveller’s adaptations should prompt questions, not be treated as a ready-made solution for your situation.
