Sarah: getting out for more than appointments

Sarah Alexander writes about reclaiming ordinary outings through a powerchair and a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

First-person article by a Motability Scheme customer, published on the Scheme’s own website. It describes her experience rather than an independent assessment of the service.

Independence changed more than once

Sarah first regained freedom by learning to drive. Later, changes in her mobility made outings harder again. A manual chair left her dependent on her boyfriend to push because self-propelling was difficult for her.

Ordinary plans became possible again

She describes a powerchair and accessible vehicle helping her go for coffee or take the dogs to a park. Her account also names social and physical barriers, including inaccessible venues. The focus is on having choices in daily life, rather than a promise that equipment resolves every difficulty.
