A wheel-based add-on
Sunrise Medical’s August 2025 launch describes the Empulse M90 as an integrated wheel add-on for manual wheelchairs. Batteries sit within the wheel assemblies and can be removed for charging. The company lists approximately 12.2 kg for the complete set and 5.9 kg for each wheel including its battery.
Two different steering experiences
The M90 offers an All-Way Toggle mode and a Speed Controller mode with handrim steering. Its wireless Dual Controller can be positioned for the user and detached for transfers. The announcement also describes hill control and switching to free-roll.
These modes place different demands on the user. A trial should establish how starting, steering and stopping work with the selected mode, rather than treating all power-assist products as equivalent.
Transport includes the added components
A manual frame may remain familiar while its loading sequence changes with powered wheels. Identify which parts are removed and where they travel before relying on the setup for a car journey. The manufacturer describes the batteries as travel-friendly but explicitly requires checking airline requirements. That description is not a flight acceptance confirmation.
