The new part is coordination between different robots
WHILL’s Haneda announcement describes more than additional chairs. Its fleet-management system, previously used to coordinate its own devices, is being extended to work with autonomous robots from other manufacturers. The intended result is shared movement through intersections and other crowded spaces.
That distinction matters: navigation by one device and coordination across a mixed fleet are separate problems. A chair may need to pause or yield even when its own route is clear, because another robot is approaching the same space.
An expansion attached to a new terminal area
The announcement was published on 25 August, ahead of the North Satellite facility opening on 1 September. WHILL described roughly 10,000 monthly rides and a fleet of 37 units across Haneda’s terminal areas. Those are company-reported figures for the airport operation.
For a passenger, fleet scale and personal suitability remain separate questions. The service is a terminal journey using airport equipment, not a software feature added to a privately owned Model F or C2.
