VW Caddy on Motability: People Carrier or WAV Conversion? Prices and Differences

The Volkswagen Caddy appears on the Motability Scheme in two very different forms: as a seven-seat people carrier from £2,699 advance payment, and as a wheelchair accessible conversion from £9,695 advance payment. One carries a wheelchair in the boot, the other carries the wheelchair user inside, seated in their chair. This guide compares the two, with the prices, seating and headroom that decide which one fits your household.

VW Caddy on Motability: People Carrier or WAV Conversion? Prices and Differences

Caddy WAV prices, headroom and seating from Brotherwood's Caddy page; Caddy People advance payments from November 2026 listings; nearly 500 WAVs and 5-year lease from Motability's October to December 2026 WAV price list news. All checked 3 November 2026.

Two different Caddys, one badge

The confusion is understandable, because both vehicles start life as a Volkswagen Caddy and both are available through the Motability Scheme, but they are built for different jobs. The Caddy People is a standard MPV: seven seats, a large boot, and the usual Motability car lease of three years, with insurance, servicing, maintenance, breakdown cover, tyre and windscreen replacement and road tax included. The Caddy WAV is a converted vehicle: the floor is lowered, a ramp is fitted, and the wheelchair user travels inside the vehicle in their chair, between the rear passenger seats in Brotherwood's Goodlife and Morelife conversions. WAV leases run for five years rather than three, and the Motability Scheme's October to December 2026 price list carries nearly 500 wheelchair accessible vehicles, so the Caddy WAV is one choice among many, not the only small option.

The people carrier: seven seats and a standard boot

The Caddy People Life is the version most families will recognise. In the November 2026 listings, the 1.5 TSI Life 116PS DSG carries an advance payment of £2,699 for PIP, DLA and AFIP customers, or £990.94 for War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement customers, while the 2.0 TDI Life 122PS DSG is £3,249, or £1,540.97 on WPMS. It seats seven, it suits wheelchair conversions in principle, and its boot can take a folding wheelchair or a scooter if it dismantles small enough. What it cannot do is carry an occupied wheelchair: a wheelchair user must transfer to a car seat, and the chair must be lifted or dismantled into the boot. For a household where the wheelchair user can transfer and someone can handle the chair, that may be enough, and the advance payment is far lower than any WAV conversion.

The WAV conversion: travel seated in your chair

Brotherwood's Goodlife and Morelife conversions for the new Caddy offer a long, flat and level lowered floor, with the wheelchair positioned between the rear passenger seats rather than behind them, so the wheelchair user sits with the family rather than apart from it. Headroom is 56 inches, the lowered floor measures 64 and a half inches, and seating is three to four seats plus one wheelchair space. Advance payments start at £9,695 for the Goodlife 1.5 TSI 116PS DSG petrol, £11,745 for the 2.0 TDI 122PS diesel, and £10,545 or £11,245 for the equivalent Morelife versions, with the Morelife being the shorter conversion for everyday use. Motability's own price list also shows small WAVs from other converters, including the Caddy Maxi from £4,995 with Allied Mobility and TBC Conversions, so converter choice changes the price even for the same base vehicle. Grants from the Motability Foundation are means-tested and can help where the advance payment is out of reach.

Which one fits your household

Use this comparison before you order. | Caddy People MPV | Caddy WAV conversion | Advance payment from | £2,699 | £9,695 | Lease length | 3 years | 5 years | Wheelchair user travels | In a car seat, after transferring | Seated in their wheelchair | Seats | 7 | 3 to 4 plus wheelchair space | Headroom in wheelchair position | Not applicable | 56 inches | Boot for a folded chair | Yes | Limited, floor is lowered for the chair | Choose the people carrier if the wheelchair user transfers comfortably and someone can lift the chair, and choose the WAV if transferring is difficult, tiring or unsafe, or if the wheelchair user wants to stay in their own chair for the journey. Either way, book a home demonstration with the converter before ordering: the step from brochure to real vehicle is where headroom, ramp angle and seating layout either work or do not.
