A home adapted for Daniel

Daniel, now 16, spent almost three years in hospital after a life-saving operation to remove a brain tumour at age 13 left him severely disabled. His family’s Freckleton home was no longer suitable for his needs, preventing his return. During summer 2025, DIY SOS, community supporters and tradespeople renovated the property, including plans for a new bedroom and bathroom created by removing a wall.

Ceiling track hoist installation

Prism Medical UK donated and installed a ceiling track hoist system for the project. The equipment comprised a Freeway Transactive Xtra 130 ceiling hoist, a double H-system and a transition gate linking the systems. The company’s Major Projects Team conducted an initial site survey and supported its engineering team with site preparation, installation and testing. The installation was only the second double H-system used on a DIY SOS build, following a 2025 project in Bracknell.

Television feature and family response

The completed build was featured on BBC One’s DIY SOS in an episode shown on 14 October 2026. Prism Healthcare Group marketing head Rachel Davis said the company was proud to support the initiative and its aim of helping people manage everyday activities. Daniel’s family described the result as unbelievable and said they were delighted to have him home. The episode is available on iPlayer.
