When shorter range needs a battery check

A change in performance is a reason to investigate, not an automatic instruction to buy a new battery.

Describe the change before buying a battery

A shorter journey between charges is a useful observation, but not a diagnosis. Compare similar trips with the same load and route. Temperature, gradients, tyre condition and changes in daily use can affect the comparison. Record when the change started and whether it developed gradually or appeared suddenly.

Observations worth recording

PatternDetail that helps the investigation
Gradual reductionComparable journeys and how the usable distance changed.
Sudden interruptionWarning display, activity at the time and whether power returned.
Charging behaves differentlyCharger lights, connection sequence and when the change began.

A full display is not a capacity measurement

The charge indicator tells you what the chair reports at that moment. It does not establish how much usable energy an ageing pack can deliver through a whole journey. Conversely, an unexpected shutdown deserves investigation even if the display previously looked reassuring.

Keep the charger and battery identification with the service request. A technician needs the actual compatible system, not only the chair’s marketing name. Do not open a sealed pack or substitute a charger because its plug happens to fit.

Bring a useful record to the service appointment

A short log can separate an occasional problem from a repeated pattern. Include the charge start and finish indication, journey length, terrain and any warning code. Photograph a displayed error when safe to do so.

Confirm the replacement before ordering

Ask the service team what they tested and whether the result points to the battery, charger or another part of the system. Before accepting a replacement, confirm the part reference and the charging instructions that apply to it. Preserve the old and new records so later changes are easier to identify.
