Guides / LIGHTWEIGHT & FOLDING

Light enough to lift. Right for your life.

The most useful weight is the one you actually have to lift. Here is how to compare folding powerchairs with confidence.

Light enough to lift. Right for your life.

Start with the whole lift

Make a note of the car you use, the height of its boot lip and who will lift the chair. A lightweight frame may still be awkward to handle when folded. Ask to try the complete loading routine during a demonstration.

Keep three weights separate

Record the weight without the battery, the complete weight with your chosen battery, and the heaviest part after any permitted disassembly. The product cards here show weight without the battery; the comparison table also includes complete-weight figures.

Compare the folded shape

Measure the clear boot opening, usable floor space and height under the parcel shelf. A long flat fold and a tall upright fold can have similar volumes but fit very differently. Allow room for securing the chair and the rest of your luggage.

Make room for comfort

A lighter chair is only useful if the seat, foot support and controls work for the person using it. Try ordinary tasks and ask about the support available if your needs change.
