Adapted caravan features vary by park and model; confirm the exact model before booking.
In brief
- Haven Type 2 caravans suit wheelchair-dependent guests; Type 1 suits moderate needs
- Exact features vary by model, so confirm door widths, bathroom and parking
- Confirm pool hoist and Changing Places availability for your dates
Haven's two adapted caravan types
Haven offers two types of adapted caravan. Type 1 suits guests with moderate accessibility needs: ramp access, twin singles in both bedrooms, a shower area with outward-opening double doors and an entry lip, some lowered kitchen units, and parking next to the caravan where the park can provide it. Type 2 suits guests who are wheelchair dependent or have limited mobility: ramp access through wider doors, a wet room with seating in the shower, hand rails and sliding doors throughout, a main bedroom with wheelchair-accessible three-foot twin beds, and parking next to the caravan where available. If you need a trapeze lift handle, request it at booking.
Pools, Changing Places and park facilities
Swimming matters on a park holiday, and Haven equips all of its parks except Lydstep Beach with a pool hoist available on request, so confirm hoist availability with the park directly before booking swimming sessions. Haven has installed Changing Places facilities at Cleethorpes Beach, Haggerston Castle, Greenacres, Kiln Park, Lakeland and Seashore. Parkdean, meanwhile, has wheelchair-accessible caravans at 63 of its 66 sites and wheelchair-accessible lodges at two Dorset sites, Warmwell and Sandford, including an accessible hot tub lodge with a hoist. Ask which facilities sit on flat ground, because large parks can be hilly.
Why the exact caravan model matters
Exact features vary by park and caravan model, even within the same grade, so never book on the grade name alone. Ask for the caravan's door widths, bathroom layout, bed heights and whether the second bedroom is wheelchair accessible, since in Haven's Type 2 the second bedroom's smaller beds are not wheelchair accessible. Ask whether parking next to the caravan is guaranteed for your dates, because parks warn it cannot be promised at every park, and a distant car park changes the whole holiday. If you need a specific bed configuration, state it at booking rather than on arrival.
Booking checklist for any park
Before paying, ask: which adapted grade and exact model am I booking; is the bathroom a wet room or a shower with a lip; is parking beside the caravan guaranteed; is the pool hoist available on my dates; is there a Changing Places toilet on park; and how flat is the route from caravan to complex, pool and entertainment. Get the answers in writing, and check what the park does if the allocated caravan turns out unsuitable on arrival. If a park cannot answer these questions, that is useful information too.
